STRIPPING SALT – 1000

STRIPPING  SALT-1000  IS  AN ALKALINE POWDERED  PRODUCT  USED  FOR STRIPPING NICKEL, COPPER, CADMIUM, ZINC AND SILVER FROM IRON  AND STEEL  BY  SIMPLE IMMERSION. THE STRIPPING RATE DEPENDS  UPON  THE SOLUTION  CONCENTRATION RATES VARYING FROM 0.5 MIL TO 2.0 MIL  PER HOUR AT 60-65°C.

STRIPPING  SALT-1000  CAN BE OPERATED MOST  ECONOMICALLY  AT  ROOM TEMPRATURE.  THE ARTICLES  TO BE STRIPPED ARE SIMPLY KEPT  IN  THE SOLUTION  AND ALLOW THEM TO STRIP IN OVERNIGHT.IF STRIPPING  SPEED IS  TO  BE  INCREASED,  THE TEMPERATURE OF  THE  SOLUTION  CAN  BE MAINTAINED AT HIGH TEMPERATURE.

STRIPPING  SALT -1000  SOLUTION  WILL   NOT ATTACK MOST STEEL  AND IRON  ALLOYS  EVEN  THOUGH THE WORK REMAINS IN  THE  SOLUTION  FOR SEVERAL  HOURS.  BUT IF THE PARTS ARE PACKED TOO  CLOSELY  IN  THE SOLUTION,  OR  IF EXCESS REPLENISHMENT HAS BEEN MADE  TO  AN  AGED BATH, ETCHING OF THE BASIS METAL MAY OCCUR.

WORKING CONDITIONS

CONCENTRATION                   150-170 G/1

TEMPERATURE                        30-70° C

PREPARATION     :

FILL THE TANK WITH 2/3RD FULL OF WATER AND HEAT THE WATER TO 50* C THEN ADD THE REQUIRED  AMOUNT  OF  STRIPPING  SALT- 1000  STIRRING TO  DISSOLVE THE  MATERIAL. ADD WATER TO BRING THE SOLUTION TO  THE WORKING LEVEL.

OPERATION     :

STRIPPING  SALT-1000  DISSOLVES  THE  PLATED  COATINGS  BY  SIMPLE IMMERSION THE PLATED WORK TO BE STRIPPED IS TO BE IMMERSED IN  THE SOLUTION  UNTIL THE COATING IS  REMOVED COMPLETELY.  AGITATION  OF THE  WORK  WILL INCREASE THE STRIPPING SPEED AND HELP  TO  PREVENT ETCHING OF THE METAL. THE PARTS SHOULD NOT BE PLACED TOO CLOSE  TO EACH  OTHER SO AS TO PREVENT THE SOLUTION CIRCULATION BETWEEN  THE PARTS.

IF THE WORK TO BE STRIPPED IS GREASY OR OILY, IT SHOULD BE CLEANED WELL  BEFORE  ENTERING THE STRIPPING SOLUTION.SMALL PARTS  CAN  BE ECONOMICALLY STIPPED IN AN OPEN-ENDED OBLIQUE BARREL. THE RATE  OF STRIPPING IN BARREL IS MUCH BETTER WITH DILUTE SOLUTION THEN  WITH     THE  MORE  CONCENTRATED  SOLUTION  IN A STILL TANK.NORMALLY 30 G/L STRIPPING SALT-1000 SOLUTION IS USED IN BARRELS. THE SOLUTION  MAY BE  DISCARDED AFTER 2 OR 3 LOADS DEPENDING UPON THE  THICKNESS  OF NICKEL TO BE STRIPPED AND VOLUME OF PARTS.

EQUIPMENT  :

PLAIN  STEEL  TANKS PROVIDED WITH M. S. STEAM  COILS  OR  ELECTRIC IMMERSION  HEATERS  ARE SUITABLE FOR HOLDING  STRIPPING  SALT-1000 SOLUTION,  JIGS  BASKETS  AND RACKS SHOULD BE  MADE  OF  STEEL  OR STAINLESS STEEL. EXHAUST VENTILATION IS RECOMMANDAD.

MAINTENEANCE   :

WHEN THE STRIPPING RATE IS REDUCED DUE TO DRAG-OUT AND CONSUMPTION OF  SALTS  ADD  50  GM/LIT OF STRIPPING   SALT-1000  TO  SPEED  UP STRIPPING. HOW EVER, AFTER TWO ADDITIONS, IT IS MORE ECONOMICAL TO DISCARD  THE  SOLUTION AND PREPARE A FRESH SOLUTION. ALSO  IF  THE BATH IS REPLENISHED WITH MORE THAN 140 GMS PER LITER WILL TEND  TO ETCH THE STEEL.

THE  SODIUM CYANIDE IN THE BATH DECOMPOSES GRADUALLY  AT  ELEVATED TEMPRATURE AND THE SODIUM CYANIDE CONTENTS SHOULD BE MAINTAINED AT 60  GM/LIT IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE ATTACK OF BASE METSL. THE  FREE CYANIDE  CONTENT  CAN BE CONTROLLED BY  THE  FOLLOWING  ANALYTICAL PROCEDURE.

PIPETTE   2 ML  SAMPLE OF STRIPPING SALT-1000 SOLUTION INTO A  250 ML  CONICAL  FLASK  AND ADD 100 ML OF COLD WATER. ADD  1/2  GM  OF POTTASSIUM  IODIDE AND TITRATE TO THE FIRST FAINT  TURBIDITY  WITH N/10 SILVER NITRATE SOLUTION.
